Car-bon Miles
The Re-Cycled Car!!

I turned a vehicle into a moving artwork for the UK's first Art Car Parades in 2007, curated by arts organisation Walk The Plank.

By converting an old East German Trabant, the famously polluting little two-stroke, into a pedal-powered vehicle I created the least polluting car ever. She was awarded the first prize, the Kyoto Award, for the most environmentally friendly car.

In the 50th anniversary year of the Trabant, I highlighted the problems facing us with increasing vehicle numbers. Using humour to attract attention to the issue is my way of getting the public to consider the impact of cars on our environment, our health and our future. She also whimsically promotes using alternatives to cars, such as bicycles.

The second event she appeared at was the Car Free Day sponsored by Brighton Council. After that was the Blackpool Illuminated Art Car Parade in October 2007 for which I added neon flowers in pots on the roof and other lights, powered by a solar panel.
